When to choose an inpatient curbside or E-Consult.
Utilize curbsides for:
-General questions about testing to be performed for work up of an established or suspected endocrine condition
-General questions about uncomplicated thyroid lab interpretation and medication adjustments based on TSH, FT4 levels
-Recommendations as to whether an oral hyperglycemic agent needs to be held for an acute presentation or procedure
-Specific monitoring concerns for a medication
-Specific concern(s) for a patient with an endocrine diagnosis presenting with a set of symptoms
For E-Consult it is best to indicate a specific clinical question rather than just an ICD10 code.
-Review for any insulin or diabetes medication adjustments
-Review and interpretation of CGM or blood glucose logs
-Review for input on whether biopsy is needed for a thyroid nodule based on an ultrasound report
-Review of bone density reports and whether there is need for starting an osteoporosis medication
-Review for input on whether an in-person consult is needed as inpatient versus outpatient (can make recommendations as appropriate for testing to be completed in anticipation of the outpatient evaluation)
-Review for the need for additional specialty consultations
-Medication questions that require a more detailed review of patient-specific information and presentation
-Pregnancy related medication adjustments in a patient with an underlying endocrine condition
